One of the biggest challenges teachers see to implementing project based learning is the government standards or expectations that curriculums require teachers to cover in a year. In Ontario, there has been a shift to move away from a checklist of specific expectations to an inquiry into the "big ideas" in each subject. If teachers can familiarize themselves with the big ideas they need to cover, they can break the chains of checking curriculum to helping students make relevant connections to real learning. Below you can find all the big ideas broken down by grade to help get a sense of the overall ideas our students need to explore. Seeing the curriculum in this way can get the creative juices flowing in designing cross-curricular projects.
